Thanks hyderoader and terry,
thats cleared that up, i remember hearing off my gran about a greyhound being buried there, thought it was MTM, i,m gettin confused somewhere, perhaps it is an old legend then!!. my unle was the leccy at the dogs for years, and my gran a kennel maid(back in the 50/60,s)
Did wonder why they pulled the chieftain down as your right terry it would be ideal for spedway, remember the 1st time i saw speedway behind glass was at wimbledon, went to see the international there after B.V at kings lynn in the afternoon

This past year I have been sorting out a mountain of VHS tapes of speedway. All kind of meetings up to about 2005 when DVs repaced all those bulky tapes!!!!!!

Anyway I have kept a few of my favourites and transferred them to disc.

A bit of a labour of love!!!

But I am down to a couple here - one of which I was watching last week - to see if there was anything I wanted to keep.

On it I was watching an England v USA meeting from 14 June 1989 and that is followed by BELLE VUE & Kings Lynn meeting from a week later!

I was trying to figure out the venue ?????????????????????????

Then it clicked!!

It was Kirky Lane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My first vist to KL was in 1994 so I was not that familiar with it! As I last saw Hyde Road in June of 1987 for a Speedway meeting before emigrating in the July. And not getting back to watch the ACES till 1994!

Couldn't believe how different it looked1

Default Aces Tapes

George,

You've just reminded me how many Aces tapes I've borrowed from Jim (Blocktread) and not returned them yet!

I only borrowed Aces wins so I'll look for the couple of tapes later

Regards to you and Terry across the Pond

Baz

The dog in question was called "Hack Up Chieftain" winner of the 1964 Greyhound Derby. I was introduced to it [and many more] by a compulsive gambler I met at night school "Chieftain" was one of the top 2 dogs at Belle Vue at the time the other being "Black Parachute". "Black Parachute" who beat "Chieftain" more often than not was really well fancied to qualify for the Derby and didn't, "Chieftain" wasn't and not only qualified but won; a rank autsider at 20/1
