I agree that this joker system is truly stupid
but for Perrin to state categorically that he won't use it even if the other teams do then it's like trying to fight with one hand tied behind your back. If it's there then maybe he should use it. If the BSPA voted it in then let them collectively take the blame for how ridiculous it will seem. I am still just going to sit back and enjoy the racing, not simply the result. |

But better results generate higher gates , higher TV profile and better sponsors and an improving asset base. This joker rule needs jesting, sorry testing ,no I'll stick with jesting to the full. The joke is on Perrin surely or should I say JP is the joker.

I didn't agree with the'joker' when it was used in another competition (can't remember which, can anyone enlighten me, was it the WTC?. I thought then that if they introduce it into domestic competitions it will make a complete mockery of the 'sport'.
I can't imagine why they replaced the tactical substitute system with this proven farce! I wonder how many of us will be introducing friends to speedway this season? If so, I suggest you reconsider, you might lose their respect. Perhaps the BSPA should get together with the GRA and devise a combined racing system whereby the riders would race against the hare. With a little effort on both sides the system could be in operation by mid-season (the usual rule amendment time). Well, why not? the mandarins at Rugby havine been driving speedway to the dogs for years, haven't they? Ron.

mind you .... at least the Royals took an interest in 'Its A Knockout!'
I'm sure we will all cringe the first time the Joker is used on a live Elite League match on SKY - bit like saying van Nistelroys goals count double for the next ten minutes!

Ron. The removal of the tactical substitution is intended to save money in a situation when you had to put your better rider in a race no doubt on a higher money-for-points-scored deal from the rider he would have replaced.
My understanding of the joker system is that in a race when we are umpteen points behind, a nominated rider's points scored in that race will count double. The rider no longer gets paid for double his points though...or am I wrong? |

binthere: they have now announced that there are two tacticals:
after heat 4 , if a team is 8 points behind then the joker can be played with the rider's points being doubled... after heat 4 , if a team is 8 points behind then a rider can come in as a tactical , with a 15 m handicap , with the rider's points being doubled... What was not indicated was how many times can you invoke this rule ??? |

The first one can be done twice, the second one only once.

More pointless complications we could well do without, but I'm inclined to say that for all the stupidity we should use the rules to best effect. The fact that it's absurd should be amply visible to everyone regardless.
