Come on ladies and gentlemen....

Get those cheques in the mail.

It's been a day so far!!!!!

Get pen to paper and get those Gregory Pecks off to the address at the top of the thread.

The Belle Vue Captain needs us, and it is time to rise to the occasion.

As today is help for heroes day, well in a sporting context they don't come any bigger than "Wilky". No rider before, or since, has commanded respect like he did.

In these days where testimonials are handed out like sweets with all the usual suspects proclaiming the recepients most deserving when in reality hardly any of them are it is good to remember when real loyal team men existed and Alan was the epitome of loyal team man.

Modern riders and team riding are non existent but to see Wilky shepherd less experienced team mates home was a joy to watch. Les Collins had a lot to thank Wilky for in his early days.

Yes boys and girls this is one speedway giant who fully deserves every penny this book may make

My dad always said Wilkie had the heart and courage of a lion when he rode for the aces, my cheques in the post. Legend is often a word overused, thats not the case with Wilkie, a true BV LEGEND!!!!

Kaiser, your dad was slightly out mate.

Alan Wilkinson was BETTER than that.

The captain still commands respects thirty one years on.

Make of that what you will.

A choice between Nicki Pederson, Tomek Gollob, or ALAN WILKINSON.

It's narrowed down to one isn't it?

The Belle Vue Captain isn't happy with HIS team these days.

Do you know why????

BECAUSE HE CARES!!!!!!!

Like we all do.

Sadly i think thats what upsets most fans, with regards to our recent sides. To many riders just going through the motions, combined with little or none club loyalty. Not every rider can be world class, but every rider can give his all to the team cause. Ive only watched Wilkie on old video, but you can tell he gave everything for his team, i have a meeting from the 70s at Kings Lynn, where Wilkie even climbs into the referees box!!!It doesnt take a genius to work out that if we had a few Wilkies in our current side, we wouldnt be in this current sad state!!!
