Does anyone know if people have made complaints about noise in the past. Not only do we have the residents to consider but the people in the hotel.

Don't think the residents can moan too much as half their kids sneak into the stadium on race night anyway.

Belle Vue will more than likely never be granted permission to build a stadium in the area we are now. Akin to what Terry what said we have a perfectly good home where we are.....all it needs is a lick of paint and a tidy up....oh and not forgetting a decent track. It's down to the GRA to stump up the readies for stadium improvements not Dave and Gordon.

Youngy,There have been noise complaints from the year dot.Typical of our society. One reason to the 'new' silencers introduced some time ago was to combat this noise problem.
I live approx 4 miles from BV and on a warm summers evening and the wind in the right direction I can hear the bikes and tannoy from my home.So this'problem'will never go away,we just have to live with it.
Regarding the kids getting in for free (over the fence)only a fully manned machine gun post will stop them.(Then we're back to the noise problem)

ph,

You shouldnt concern yourself too much with what people to with their money once you have handed it over in return for immediate entertainment.

Obviously there are going to be people and situations that call for bad decisions that affect the long term attraction of a sport /entertainment, hence your worries.

But really, you should be old and wise enough to know that people just run companies to make money or ends meet, sometimes being too sentimental is the exact ingredients for doom.

Just like this thread, some contributors believe that Dave is going to shell out for a stadium or take steps to move the speedway elsewhere on a better stage, for those of you tha believe that dream on.

Dave will only invest in a return, otherwise I will happily join a very long queue and wait for my handout as i am always on the lookout for free cash.

Either way, the only people likely to assist in the discussion of a new stadia is the council.

SS
My "worries" are not for the new promotion, but for the outgoing one, godd bye and good riddance to the. When they first came in I was in a small minority who voiced concern over the reasons for them buying the licence. It appears I have in some way been proved correct in my worries by recent events, (the saga surrounding JC) However we may be on the same wavelength here regarding the stadium Yes the council and those holding the reigns at BV will decide about new stadiumd, but read the thread it seems to me that a few people are in having pie in the sky thoughts and that a new stadium is around the corner, it aint.
The new promotion should now (as has been reported) be in talks with the GRA about improving facilities for ALL sports in the stadium, cause believe me it aint a barrel of roses for the dogs or the dog paying public.
Other than that I feel I can voice my concern when I have paid my hard earned cash. I want to see the best racing possible with the best riders possible for the cash that is qavailable, and that includes mine. And yes I am old enough and wise enough to see what is going on!

I wonder what would actually be possible (other than a lick of paint and a general tidy up) to do with the stadium if we had the necessary permission from the greyhound people and of course the council.
A wish list of my own would include
1) better viewing facilties along the home
strait if only to ssilence those visiting
fans who say the view is restricted (which
in fairness it is).
2) Access to the higher levels on the third and
fourth bends in addition to the temporary
stands planned for the back strait.
3) An approach to the council to relax the 10pm
curfew so we could watch a full program
including second half racing.
4) Test the council's resolve on the frequency
of use for speedway purposes with a view to
holding a training school on any other day
that fits in with the greyhounds.
5) Ask the greyhound people if we might be
allowed to hang some speedway paintings/
photographs in the public areas even if only
on speedway night.
As I said, just my wish list. If you never ask then you will never know.

My family home is in Shelford Avenue (#47, the one with the curtains) which circles the shops on Stanley Grove, and although our house is 200 yards from the 2nd bend, when I was back over there, I'd get in from a home meeting at 4.00am (like you do) and later on in the morning, my mum would ask why there had been no meeting. She, or the rest of the street didn't hear anything but my sister in Reddish heard it like it had been in her back garden.
Then other times we would be able to hear dog meetings, barking, people grumbling after stepping in something etc. Now stock cars? one consistent, continual enginefest. It was like flying in one of those open cockpit planes they used to have. Absolute racket!
Anytime planning permission was required, all our neighbours would get a letter in the mail stating that applications for say, five stock car meetings, for speedway on a certain or particular night, even the Friday night dog meetings, to take place, and we had fifteen days to lodge any disapproval that we may have, on the back of the letter and mail it post free to that little local council office on Mount Road and the corner of Annie Lee Park.
Even one dissenting voice could scupper the whole application, but so far it never has.
Training Schools can be held on speedway days , Mon, Wed, Sun at present, as long as they are over by ten o'clock. (Ivan Mauger, Team press and practice etc.) There is no problem planning wise. Stadium rental wise is the thing. Thanks to the last but one holder of the speedway licence and his never ending feuds with the GRA people (amongst others)
If Dave and his people keep up the excellent start with the GRA manager, who knows what might happen?
The last person was preoccupied with other tracks to bother about training schools.
As Alan says, "If you don't ask, you don't get."

Terry,As one who played a VERY minor part in the quest for training schools allow me to make this point clear.
1.The cost of hiring the stadium, electricity, insurance etc was the same as a race night.
2.The reluctance of the GRA staff to cover the track/uncover the track put far too much pressure on the speedway track staff.
3.The St John's fees were the same as a race night, plus the doctors fee.
sadly the end result was a 'no go situation'
I can assure everyone that we did try and try hard to get these essenti
al services but to no avail.
maybe the new promotion will have better luck but I would suggest we let them concentrate on building a regular first team first.
