Wonder if we can fit both Simon and Joe in now?

Don't worry, as posted on the Adam Skornicki thread:

There will be plenty of riders looking for a job now so dont panic now reading have dropped and the amount of riders that clubs wont be able to fit in there are quite a few, i.e where is bjarne going to go, coventry, swindon and poole will lose at least 2-3 riders. I bet riders will be ringing belle vue this week thats for sure. I can see alot of riders missing from the Elite league this year.

Presume that he wanted the security of regular big scores in the PL. Especially after his recent marriage.

Pity though - he was the shining light of 2007 and there was more improvement to come.

ambition and talant are part of the sport but so is funding, and there were the warning signs last season that he was not making enough. If he has got himself a better deal, along with the sponsorship he will pick up back at lynn where he will be the No1 ( and i dont think TT will match him this time) then making a good living is not a lack of ambition, its whats pays for a lifestyle.
but i still wish he had stayed

Totally gutted.

Still, good luck Big Kev, hope it all works out for you. I'll probably pop along to Stoke when KL are there to see how he's getting on.

spectator,

i have to disagree with what you say about funding, i worked with Kevin behind the scenes last season and built a good relationship, but it amazes me how the perception of the riders comes across to the fans.

Kevin does almost everything himself to save money as well as knowing exactly what he wants with his bikes and set up, i myself am exactly the same in my line of work and I think this is why we hit it off together.

What did suprise me and this is not aimed at Kevin, is that a large majority of them appear not to be marketing men and it is highly possible that they "could" be reliant on people coming forward to offer financial support, rather than being creative and doing the lions share themselves.

Clearly this isnt right in a "professional" sport and I can understand how hard it is then for the clubs to know who to sign and who is going to be a problem in maintaining the equipment / standards etc.

Without speaking to Kevin, there has to be a bottom line reason why he opted to drop down again.

He has confirmed to ride again in Sweeden for Vargarna and has signed for Tarnow in Poland so he is certainly moving in one direction.

The marketing of riders in this day and age i believe is possible but you have to try many things, something that I wanted to do for Kevin here in Manchester, as I live relatively local and felt that I could achieve something for him.

Unfortunately I am just a supporter and a sponsor with limited resources, but if I had been asked about where Kevin should have ended up, it would be here at Belle Vue so we could collectively increase his exposure, as his introduction to the Elite League was largely a success.

I dont know what exposure he can achieve in the premier league now, but if Kings Lynn ride high in the table, finishing in a position to compete with the bottom placed Elite League team, then he might get seen again at the end of the year, who knows.

Some of the financial support that had come from people around Kings Lynn was pretty impressive, but that doesnt mean that we couldn't have had a crack at it.

People like Neil who contributes on here has done a lot with various riders over the years at Belle Vue, including Kevin and without people like him, and to a much smaller degree people like myself, riders will continue to wander without any true direction and support.

All the best to Kevin for next season, in my mind he has to win something, the Prem League riders trophy, Prem League Pairs or finish in the top four riders averages, otherwise he has gone sideways.

I feel totaly deflated, because he was the type of rider the Aces needed.Just hope we find a suitable replacement.

Good luck Kev.

SS, was interested to read your comments about the need for riders to market themselves and how ill-equipped they are to do it.
As someone who is in this line of business, I have been amazed at how few top riders have a professional showreel to show potential sponsors let alone thinking about a strategy for bringing in much needed funds. Winning over new sponsors is a " slow burn" in any field and speedway is no exception.
I have thought for some time that one of the way speedway promoters should be moving forward is by "having someone on the books" full-time who does nothing but seek sponsorship for the club and its riders.
Its a job that needs to be done properly and sadly not in " your spare time" and not by riders, who don't have the time to nurture new sponsors. I think clubs brave enough to take this financial commitment would reap the rewards if the role was taken seriously.

I'm disappointed for you BV fans on losing Kev but what can I say, you know he's a massive favourite at Lynn.

I think that Lynn had everything in place to go up into the EL and hence Kev was gonna be included in that team, for those who think he lacks ambition!!!!!! But he's obviously decided that he'll race for us anyhow and with the huge SKY incentive for the promotion/relegation playoff I do think King's Lynn will be busting a gut to win it, all things considered of course. Kev has shown you, and of course us, that he's WELL capable of doing what's necessary [^]

My thinking re these favourite riders we have lost from our teams, just be glad we had the pleasure of their inclusion in our teams whilst we did ............. and never say never re them riding for our team again in the future .............. Crumpy is the perfect example eh

A lesson here for the promotion "dont sell your assett's" Kevin was once a full Ace but JP sold him on. Wether you use them or not some one will always pay a loan fee and you get first option.
